Red Shores, alc.ca and Offshore Sites

The two Red Shores casinos, in Charlottetown and Summerside, are buildings you walk into, not websites. Online play on the island follows its own rules, and the Island concierge desk sets them out plainly below.

The provincial position

On Prince Edward Island, alc.ca is the provincially regulated route to online casino games. It is run by Atlantic Lottery for the PEI Lotteries Commission. The Commission conducts and manages gaming for the province and has handed that task to Atlantic Lottery. The four Atlantic provinces share joint ownership of Atlantic Lottery. PEI offers no licensing or registration for private online casinos.

Offshore operators fall outside that structure. PEI's gambling strategy for 2023 to 2028 states that such operators lack any authority to conduct or manage lottery programs on the Island. In Atlantic Lottery's view, other gambling sites have no legal right to operate or advertise anywhere in Atlantic Canada. A licence granted in another country, it adds, does not change that. Atlantic Lottery products can be bought, played or redeemed only by people aged 19 or older.

How this guide is paid

Paid links on Island Casino Concierge stay on the home page, each carrying the label Ad. Readers meet the first as a menu button, the second just under the opening screen, and the third nearer the page's end. Whichever is clicked, the destination is one private online casino partner. The Island concierge desk earns a commission from that partner, which could later be swapped for a different one. The partner is a separate private firm, with no link to alc.ca, to Red Shores, to Atlantic Lottery or to the PEI Lotteries Commission.

Under the provincial position described above, a private site of this sort holds no authority in PEI, and the choice rests with the reader. Should play happen anywhere, the Island concierge desk asks that readers play responsibly: fix a limit beforehand and stay within it. Each casino game builds a house edge into its rules, so across many sessions players taken together end up with losses larger than their wins.

Taking a break online

Players on alc.ca can place breaks on themselves. A short break can be set anywhere between 1 and 90 days, while a long break can be 6 months, or 12, 24 or 36. Once chosen, neither type of break can be undone. A Take a Break button also appears on the wager screens.

Break in Play, the Red Shores self-exclusion program, is separate. It covers the gaming floors in Charlottetown and Summerside. PlayWise Advisors answer questions about it at 902-620-4267.

Questions guests ask

Is there a legal online casino in PEI?

In PEI, the provincially regulated route to online casino games is alc.ca, operated by Atlantic Lottery on the PEI Lotteries Commission's behalf. Private online casinos cannot obtain any licence or registration on the Island, and the provincial gambling strategy states that offshore operators have no authority there.

Does Red Shores run a casino website?

Both Red Shores casinos use redshores.ca, and the toll-free line for both is 1-877-620-4222. Online casino games regulated by the province are on alc.ca.

Why does this guide have Ad links?

Paid links appear on the Island Casino Concierge home page, each one marked Ad. They all point readers toward one private online casino, the guide's partner, which pays it a commission; that partner could be replaced. The concierge desk accepts no bets and stands apart from any casino.

How old must players be?

Only people aged 19 and older may use the gaming floors. Atlantic Lottery requires anyone buying, playing or redeeming its products to be at least 19.
